In 2020, the outdoors became hallowed ground. I hiked for the solitude and silence found only in the remotest places. These solitary steps inspired so many ideas. Mt. Rainier became a friendly face.
Unfortunately, so did the wildfires. By September, they scorched more than 713,000 acres of Washington state — the 2020 fire season saw more individual fires than any other recorded year.
